Koper (Italian Capodistria) is the sixth largest city in Slovenia. With its 25,753 (in year 2020) inhabitants, it is the largest city in Slovenian Istria. Its origins date back to the period of the Roman Republic, when the center of Koper was still an island. With its rich cultural heritage, the city will take over every traveler. While exploring the city, you can’t miss Tito Square. Which is the center of the old town and all city’s main streets end there. It is one of the most beautiful squares in the former Venetian territory and it is surrounded by the Praetorian Palace from the 15th century, the Lodge, Armeria or armory, Foresteria or lodgings and the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary which history dates back to the 12th century.

Praetorian palace
The central architectural monument of the city of Koper is located on Tito Square. It houses the Tourist Information Center, the old pharmacy, the University of Primorska, the wedding hall and the meeting hall of the Council of the Municipality of Koper.
It was built in the 13th century and got its present appearance in the middle of the 15th century. So it is architecturally marked by the late Gothic-Renaissance style and Venetian Gothic. (read more…)
