Meet Marija Božac, the woman who defies all stereotypes about mothers-in-law. Embracing the Latin proverb “Sensim sine sensu aetas senescit” – “Age comes slowly, imperceptibly,” Marija understood the importance of staying active and vital after retirement. Seeking to fill the void and find a fulfilling occupation, she envisioned the holiday rental business as the perfect opportunity.
Supported by her loved ones, Marija’s search led her to the beautiful Mediterranean coast and the charming coastal city of Koper. After years of exploration, she discovered the ideal location in the renovated Tomos block. Together with her daughter Anja and her partner Marko, they transformed the space into two exquisite apartments: The Red and The Blue.
With the launch of Histrias Apartments, Marija’s idleness vanished, and her phone once again buzzed with activity and connection to the world. From welcoming guests and managing administration to ensuring impeccable cleanliness and comfort, Marija found joy in witnessing the satisfaction and contentment of those who spent their holidays in their Koper apartments. Time passed swiftly, and she discovered a deep sense of purpose and inner peace through her work. Marko Matkovič
Now let’s introduce you to Marko Matkovič, the enthusiastic son-in-law who had the vision of starting a holiday rental business long before meeting his partner Anja. He bought in 2013 a half-demolished old house in the heart of Slovene Istria and has spent last 9 years pouring his heart and soul into renovating a charming old stone Istrian house. Together with Marija, they invested tremendous effort in preparing the Histrias Apartments for their first guests in July of 2020. And in September 2022, we proudly expanded our offerings by introducing two exquisite apartments in the beautifully restored property named Casa Histria. While Marija dedicated herself to guest care and comfort, Marko’s technical expertise and digital marketing skills propelled the business forward.
Marko’s passion for preserving the historical charm of the house shines through in every detail. With meticulous attention to craftsmanship and a deep respect for the heritage of the region, he has transformed this ancient dwelling into a haven of modern comfort and elegance. The merging of traditional architectural elements with contemporary amenities creates a truly enchanting atmosphere.
